1:10 SCALE MODEL OF ARMOURED CAR USED BY LENIN AS A ROSTRUM IN PETROGRAD, 1917

It's offered to your attention the 19" long (1:10 scale) model of the British-Russian armoured car "Austin Putilovets" what became well known as a rostrum for Vladimir Lenin at the Finland station in Petrograd at the meeting on April 16th, 1917, just upon Lenin's return to Russia after his long exile. This armoured car is the famous symbolism of the "bolsheviks" revolution in the former USSR countries, and even abroad. This particular scale model has been presented in 1977 to Russian DOSAAF (Voluntary Society for Assistance to the Army, Air Force and Navy) by Defence Association of Hungary as a remembrance of Lenin's trip to Hungary and his meetings with Bela Kun. The model is standing on the wooden pedestal and covered by plexiglass. The metal plate on the top of the wooden pedestal shows the map of Hungary with the places where Lenin travelled. You can see the metal signs of DOSAAF and the Defence Association of Hungary beside this plate. The plate on its front is devoted to 50th Congress of the DOSAAF in 1977. There is music player inside the wooden pedestal, you can see the controls on the photos below (play, stop, record, forward and rewind buttons). The front lights of the model should shine (there are some wires visible under the hood). The model's wooden pedestal has electric plug for Russian electric standard socket (with power supply of 220V, 50Hz). Supposely the player would play a speech of Lenin or International song. It has not been tested electricaly.

Scale - 1:10.

Model length - about 19 inches (49 cm).

Model material - plywood of a very good quality was used for the body (the first imagination was until I opened the hood: it has been made of metal). Probably metal and plastic is also used for some parts.

Condition - used. The model itself is like new but the pedestal looks a little worn. The work of the car front lights and music player has not been tested.

Historical reference. On April 16, 1917 Vladimir Lenin returned to Petrograd from exile and made his famous speech at the Finland Station. After the February Revolution of 1917, the German authorities allowed Lenin leave Switzerland by train through Germany with his fellow party members.

As a prominent fighter against the autocracy in Russia Lenin participated in meeting of the Menshevik and Socialist-Revolutionary Council organized for his return at the Finland Station, Petrograd. The organizers of the meeting could not find more suitable rostrum than an armored car "Austin Putilovets". This moment was captured later by many sculptors and artists. The next day Lenin made a speech for the Bolsheviks, and this speech was later published in "Pravda". These were the famous "April Theses". In this speech, Lenin sharply opposed the sentiments prevailing in Russia among the Social Democrats. Lenin declared the following slogans: "No support for the Provisional Government" and "All power - to the Soviets". From April to July 1917 Lenin wrote more than 170 articles, brochures, draft resolutions and appeals for conferences of Bolshevik Party Central Committee .
