RUSSIAN SOUTH WOMEN COSTUME w/HORNED KICHKA! |
It's offered to your attention the Russian festive attire - the costume which was mostly spread in the south regions of Russia - Ryazan, Tambov, Saratov etc. - in 18th -19th centuries. The red and black colors of the costume (especially black) are typical for south regions of Russia, mostly for weddings and other celebrations. These costumes were made for several ages (without definite size) and usualy were kept in chests between celebrations. They had been taken from mother to daughter etc. and not worn too much - just for the evens above. ![]()
The suit consists of 4 things:- Long red shirt - traditionally decorated in bottom, arms, breast and neck - all are trimmed with golden lace! This is made of wool mixture (top) and flax (bottom) to fit the color of the skirt (see details on the pictures below); - Red checked skirt (called "poneva") - golden and regular trim and braid decorated and spangled in bottom and embroidered with squares (checked). It's made of flax (see details on the pictures below); ![]() ![]() - head-dress (called horned "kichka") - made of cotton and flax with a lot of beads. It's designed especially to cover most of the women's hair because Russians thought that women's hair carry evil forces - that's why the back bottom detail of the head-dress is made of beads with crosses (see details on the pictures below); ![]() ![]() This dress has been made in Moscow according to 18-19 centuries "fashion". Too much hand-work!!! This could be a very good gift to Russian history lover or folklore singer, balalaika player, or just as unusual decoration!
