Pavel Popovich was born on October 05, 1930 in the village Uzin, Kiev Region. In 1961 Popovich
graduated from the Military Air Engineering Academy by N.E. Zhukovsky. After it he recieved qualification "pilot-
engineer-cosmonaut".
On March 07, 1960, Pavel Popovich was involved to the Group of Cosmonauts Training Center of Air Forces
which was being formed at that time and on January 25, 1961 he was engaged for the position of Cosmonaut
and given the qualification "Air Forces Cosmonaut". On August 12, 1962 Pavel Popovich
performed the world's first group flight of two manned spacecrafts on VOSTOK-4 together with A. Nikolaev
(VOSTOK-3). For this feat he was awarded the highest award of USSR - Hero of USSR Star. On July 03,
1974 Popovich performed his second spaceflight together with Y. Artukhin as the Commander of SOYUZ-14.
After the flight he was engaged mostly into public and representative activities. He was also preparing
for other missions in back-up crews between his two flights.
