1969 SOVIET "YASTREB" SPACESUIT LSS BACKPACK RVR-1P

It's offered to your attention life support system backpack RVR-1P for the Soviet spacesuit "Yastreb" developed by NPP Zvezda for EVA during Soyuz-4,5 space mission in 1969. Cosmonauts successfully passed from Soyuz-5 to Soyuz-4 through outer space, and then landed onboard Soyuz-4. EVA continued 37 minutes.

To facilitate the passage of suited cosmonauts through the exit hatch (600 mm in diameter) the designers of NPP Zvezda decided to fix the LSS backpack on cosmonaut's waist and legs. The letter "P" at the end of its abbriviation stands for the Russian word "poyasnoi" meaning its mounting "to the waist" of the cosmonaut (see photos from "NPP Zvezda" book below).

The photos from the manufacturer's book given below is the best proof of the item authenticity. COA can be given to the buyer upon request.

Condition - used. Technically its work has not been tested.

Please see additional photos of the backpack below.

Historical reference. In 1962 OKB-1 designed Soyuz spacecraft for circumlunar flight as the part of the Soviet L-1 Moon program. NPP Zvezda had got down to research work on a rescue suit for this spacecraft. In 1964, as a part of the Moon program, the Chief Designer of OKB-1 Sergey Korolev made the decision to carry out in-orbit docking of two Soyuz spacecraft. The new task for the rescue spacesuit was to facilitate the transfer of crew members from one vechicle to another through outer space. Cosmonauts had the requirements to put on the spacesuit onboard Soyuz and the duration of suited mode for the suit should be up to 2 hours in outer space. The cosmonauts had to come to airlock with their legs first, and because of that the developers decided to put the LSS backpack to the cosmonauts waist. That's how "Yastreb" spacesuit development started.
